Abstract
Swamedication is a human effort to treat ailments or symptoms of ailments such as fever, cough, flu, pain and others without a doctor's prescription. In practice, limited knowledge of drugs and their use can be a source of medication errors.52his study uses a cross sectional survey method. Data is collected through questionnaire filling techniques that have been validated. A total of 226 respondents involved in this study were selected by consecutive sampling method from 3 market pharmacies 7 Tembung Percut Sei Tuan Medan District which was determined proportionally according to the population of each pharmacy. Data were analyzed by Chi-square and Fisher's tests using Statistical Product and Servicer Solution (SPSS) version 17.
The results showed that good self-knowledge knowledge 19%, with good self-rationality 12.8% and 81% poor self-knowledge knowledge, irrational self-rationale 6.2%, and poor-value 48.3%. Based on the results of the Chi-square test, knowledge of self-medication is influenced by age, last education and occupation. While self-rationality is also influenced by recent education, age, and occupation.
Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the knowledge of patients about self-medication at the 7 Tembung market pharmacy Percut Sei Tuan Medan District, the majority is classified as less good about self-medication knowledge 45.5%. Irrational use of self-medication drugs The rationality of use of self-medication drugs is 52.5%.
