Abstract

Gel mask is a practiced mask which can be removed immediately. Cucumber is a low-calorie fruit, rich water, and vitamin C and flavonoids have an antioxidant effect by cutting off very reactive free radicals that tend to form new radicals and has function as a skin conditioner and antioxidant. Lemon is a fruit that produces antioxidants can counteract free radicals has function as a natural antioxidant, because it contains vitamin C, citric acid, essential oils, flavonoids, polyphenols, coumarin, flavonoids, and volatile oils on the skin. So it is well formulated as a mask.
This study used an experimental gel mask consisting of cucumber and lemon, polyvinyl alcohol, HPMC, Glycerin, TEA, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Aquades, and 70% ethanol with a concentration of 5% and has a ratio of 1:1, 1:3, 3:1. Tests of gel mask preparations were homogeneity, pH, power test time of the preparation dried up, spreadability, organoleptic, and irritation using 12 volunteers.
Gel mask formulation of cucumber and lemon extract as an active ingredient is made quite stable, the pH ranges from 6.8-7.5 so it is safe to use.
The conclusion is cucumber and lemon extract can be combined as an additional active ingredient in gel mask, the higher the ratio of the addition of cucumber extract a combination of lemon extract, the higher pH produced and obtain that meet the criteria of a good gel mask, irritation test results in gel mask preparations are all in the negative category (-), which means all preparations do not cause irritation, and preparations do not change shape, colour, and aroma.
