Abstract
Drinking water standards in Indonesia follow WHO standards which in some ways are adapted to Indonesian conditions. In 2002, the Indonesian Ministry of Health established microbiological water quality criteria, through Minister of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010 that drinking water is not allowed to contain coliform bacteria and Escherichia coli. Whereas in the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) No. 01-3553-2006, bottled water other than may not contain microbial contaminants greater than 100 colonies / ml. This study aims to identify E. coli bacteria in refill drinking water in Dairi Regency in 2019.
This type of research is an experimental descriptive study which includes sampling, sterilization of equipment, making media, and identification of Escherichia coli bacteria with the ALT method. Samples were taken from 20 samples of refill gallon water in Dairi District. Bacterial identification in water samples was carried out by planting methods on LB media, Total Plate Numbers (ALT), and affirmation by planting on BGLB media and IMVIC Tests. This research was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra.
Microbiological examination results showed there was no contamination of Escherichia coli bacteria in refill drinking water from 20 depots in Dairi district. But there are other non-specific coliform bacteria contamination in the 6 drinking water samples studied. Health Office supervision is needed to control the quality of drinking water sold in Dairi District.
