Abstract

Wasting is a nutritional status based on body weight index according to height (BB / TB) which is the equivalent term wasted (thin) and severely wasted (very thin). Based on monitoring nutritional status (PSG) in 2017 in Indonesia there are as many as 2.8% of toddlers having very thin nutritional status and 6.7% of children under five having underweight nutritional status.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors for wasting in infants in the Idi Rayeuk Health Center District of East Aceh in 2019. This study was an analytical study with a case-control design (case control design). Sampling is done in total sampling. Comparison of cases and controls is 1: 1 matching age, gender, and having KIA books, then the total number of samples is 86 toddlers consisting of 43 toddlers as cases and 43 toddlers as controls. Data were analyzed by univariate, bivariate with chi square test and multivariate with logistic regression test.
The results of the study in the Puskesmas Idi Rayeuk work area showed that infectious diseases (OR = 7.6), history of exclusive breastfeeding (OR = 3.1), family income (OR = 2.6), parenting (OR = 3.4) , and a history of basic immunization (OR = 3.1) is a risk factor for wasting in infants and variable number of family members (OR = 1.4) is not a risk factor for wasting in infants. The most dominant wasting risk factor is infectious disease (OR = 15,797) which means that toddlers who have a history of infectious diseases have a 15.7 times chance of experiencing wasting compared to children who have no history of infectious diseases.
For Idi Rayeuk Puskesmas, it is expected that health workers, especially the implementation of nutrition programs, can regularly monitor and overcome the nutritional status of children under five, especially wasting problems experienced by toddlers.
