Abstract
The high birth rate in Indonesia is one of the big problems and special attention to handling it. The use of modern contraception has not increased significantly from 54% in 1990 to 57.4% in 2014. An estimated 225 million women in developing countries want to delay or stop fertility but do not use any contraceptive method with the reason that the choice of contraceptive methods is limited and the experience of side effects. Unmet needs for contraception are still too high. Participation in family planning is due to lack of family support. The aim of the researcher is to find out the relationship between family supports and the participation of fertile age women on family planning programs at Heny Maternity Clinic Medan in 2018.
This study uses analytical survey design with Cross Sectional approach. The populations in this study were all women of childbearing age 44 respondents. The sampling was accidental sampling. The data analysis was done by univariate and bivariate using Chi-Square statistical test.
Based on the results of univariate analysis, the majority of families did not support 27 respondents (61.4%) who participated in the family planning programs as many as 7 respondents (25.9%) and those who did not participate were 20 respondents (74.1%). Bivariate analysis with Chi-Square statistical test, family support with the participation of fertile age women on family planning programs was obtained by p value (0.009) <α (0.05).
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship between family support and the participation of fertile age women on family planning programs at Heny Maternity Clinic in 2018. It is expected that as input material and especially Heny Maternity Clinic can add insight and knowledge to mothers about the importance of participating on family planning programs.
