Abstract
Balm is a concentrated scouring agent such as ointment, while ointment is a semi-solid preparation intended for topical use of the skin or mucous membranes that serves to protect or relax the skin and relieve pain or pain.
Balm preparations are made with a variety of concentrations, namely concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Balm preparations were made amounted 10 grams per concentration and tested on preparations which included organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test and hedonic test.
The results of the study can be shown that essential oils of fragrant lemongrass leaves can be made as a balm preparation and meet the physical evaluation of the preparation. The results of organoleptic tests showed that the preparations made were quite stable, homogeneous, pH 6 and the preparation did not cause irritation. The formulation of balm from essential oils of fragrant lemongrass leaves (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle) fulfilled the physical evaluation requirements of the preparation including organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test and hedonic test.
Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the essential oil of fragrant lemongrass leaves can be formulated into the form of balm preparations and a good preparation is a preparation with a concentration of 20%.
