Abstract
Bina Keluarga Lansia (BKL) is one of the Tribina groups in the form of a forum for activities for elderly families and families who have elderly people who try to improve family activities and skills in providing and developing the potential of the elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine family support by empowering the elderly through BKL activities at Kelurahan Karang Berombak, Medan Barat Sub-District of Medan in 2018.
This study used an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The populations in this study were all families who had elderly as many as 525 people. The sample was 84 people used the technique of proportionate stratified random sampling. The techniques of collecting data were primary, secondary and tertiary ways. The data analysis was done by univariate and bivariate.
The results of the study were using statistical tests p (0,000) <α (0,05) which meant that there was a relationship between the support of family physiology and the empowerment of elderly. The result of the statistical test of p was (0,000) <α (0.05) which means that there was a relationship between family psychology support and elderly empowerment. The results of the statistical test of p was (0,000) <α (0.05), which means that there was a relationship between family social support and elderly empowerment.
The conclusion in this study shows that there is the influence of family support with elderly empowerment at Kelurahan Karang Berombak, Medan Barat Sub-District of Medan in 2018. It is expected to be more active in participating elderly activities and coming regularly on every activity, and to always provide motivational support to the elderly to stay active in activities and providing assistance to them.
