Abstract

Personal protective equipment is an effort to protect themselves from the potential danger of work accidents. The problem that occurs is that almost all of the workers encountered at PT. Nindya Karya has knowledge about the use of PPE where they do not know the use of masks, gloves, shoes and helmets at work. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of workers with the use of PPE.
The research design used in this study is a descriptive-analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was all workers at PT. Nindya Karya persero as many as 50 respondents with a sample is the entire population. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square test statistics.
The results of the study showed that the majority of respondents were less knowledgeable as many as 23 respondents (46.0%), being less ie as many as 19 respondents (38.0%) and respondents using PPE poorly as many as 29 respondents (58.0%). Statistical test results show that there is a relationship of knowledge (p = 0.003) and employee attitudes (p = 0.011) with the use of PPE at PT. Nindya Karya Kualuh Hulu Subdistrict Labuhanbatu Utara District in 2017.
It is recommended to the leadership of PT. Nindya Karya to increase the promotion of the use of PPE in the workplace so that workers can know clearly about the benefits of using PPE.
