Abstract
Touch is the first language for mother and baby. A touch in the form of a gentle massage expresses mother's affection and is able to meet the baby's need for physical contact. According to WHO (World Health Organization) the age of infants 1-6 months is an important stage because it requires stimulation such as baby massage for optimal growth and development. An initial survey conducted on 15 mothers at Sei Tampang Labuhanbatu stated that massage was done if the baby had a fever, illness, fuss and was carried out by a traditional birth attendant. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of infant massage counseling on the implementation by mothers at Sei Tampang Labuhanbatu.
This research is a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest design without using a control group. The study was conducted in Labuhanbatu from June to September 2018. Samples in this study were mothers who had babies aged 3-12 months with sampling techniques that were purposive sampling totaling 30 respondents. The data analysis used univariate and bivariate analysis.
Based on the result of the study when the pretest obtained that the mother which was done a baby massage with a category of less as many as 30 people (100%). The posttest implementation of mothers in infant massage results in a good category of 14 people (47.7%). The results of the sig normality test. 0.019 <sig α 0.05, then Wilcoxon test was done with the results of sig. 0.00 <sig α 0.05, then Ha was accepted.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is an effect of infant massage counseling on the implementation by the mother at Sei Tampang Labuhanbatu in 2018. It is suggested for mothers to carry out infant massage independently for their babies to provide benefits directly to the mother and optimal growth and development of the baby.
