Abstract
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates the occurrrence of ARI in developing countries is 0.29% (151 million people). ARI ranks first in diseases suffered by toddlers and toddlers in Indonesia (25.5%). ARI can be caused by several factors such as housing conditions, characteristics of children under five (age, gender, exclusive breastfeeding, immunization status, nutritional status, birth weight), occupancy density, outside air pollution, sources of indoor air pollution (anti-drug use mosquito fuel, cooking fuel and the presence of smokers). The purpose of this study was to determine the related factors to the occurrence of ARI in toddlers at Desa Baja Dolok, Sipispis Sub-District, Serdang Bedagai District in 2018.
The type of this research is quantitative research, analytical survey research design with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used accidental sampling technique as many as 78 people. The collection of primary, secondary and tertiary data was collected by questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test.
The results showed p-value = 0.005 (Exclusive breastfeeding), p-value = 0.014 (nutritional status), p-value = 0,000 (immunization) and p-value = 0,000 for pre-radical exposure.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, nutritional status, immunization and pre-radical exposure to the occurrence of ARI in toddlers at Desa Baja Dolok, Sipispis Sub-district, Serdang Bedagai District in 2018. It is suggested that health workers increase immunization coverage for toddlers by educating mothers about the importance of immunization in providing immunity from disease (immune system) such as ARI.
