Abstract
Background;According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2010) in the United States there are 40 million people aged <20 years experiencing anxiety before childbirth. The prevalence of anxiety and depression in developed countries is around 7-20% and in developing countries around 20%.Objectives; to determine the relationship of therapeutic communication with the anxiety of primigravida mothers facing the delivery process at the PratamaHadijah Medan Outpatient Clinic in 2018.Method;this type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 34 respondents using the total population method. Techniques and methods for collecting data with primary data through a checklist distributed to all respondents. Bivariate data analysis using Chi-Square test.Results;the results of the study were the majority of respondents who were good and not anxious therapeutic communication were 10 respondents (29.4%), who were anxious as many as 8 respondents (23.5%). And the minority of respondents with less and noxious therapeutic communication were 1 respondent (2.9%), anxious 11 respondents (32.4%) and severe anxiety as many as 4 respondents (11.8%). Conclusion; there is a relationship of therapeutic communication with primigravida mothers' anxiety in facing the delivery process at the Hadijah Medan Outpatient Clinic in 2018. It is recommended for health workers to further improve therapeutic communication to mothers to reduce the level of anxiety in the face of childbirth.
