Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) is one of the traditional plants that are widely used by the community for treatment, one of its properties as an antibacterial cause of acne because it contains karpain alkaloid.
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the ethanol extract of papaya leaves could be made in gel preparations and whether the gel preparations of papaya leaf ethanol extract had activity against the inhibitory power of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.
This research was an experimental study that extracts obtained using maceration method then made gel preparations of ethanol extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%, then gel preparations of ethanol extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L) evaluated with organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH test, dispersion test and antibacterial activity test.
Preparation of gel preparations using ethanol extract of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) were concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% fulfilled the criteria, organoleptic gel test was brown, dark brown and blackish brown, half solid and smelled typical of papaya leaves. homogeneous preparations, the average pH test of gel is 6, the dispersion test is 6.2 cm, 6.5 cm and 6.7 cm and the antibacterial activity test gel extracts of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) with 5 inhibitory 65 mm, 6.05 mm, 6.8 mm. For data analysis used one way anova test followed by tukey test, the results of bacterial inhibitory power on ethanol extract gel of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) was significantly different (p 0.05) so that it affected the inhibitory power of bacteria. Based on these results it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) has provided inhibitory power to the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.
