Abstract
Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2014 more than 700 million women were married before the age of 18. Early childbirth creates an increased health risk in teenage mothers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledge and parental support with early marriage in Kampung Baru Village, North Singkil District, Aceh Singkil District, 2018.
The design of this study uses analytical survey method with cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 41 women. Sampling in this study using total population where all populations were sampled as many as 41 people. Research location in Kampung Baru Village, Singkil Utara District, Aceh Singkil District.
The results of this study indicate there is a relationship of knowledge with early marriage in Kampung Baru Village, Singkil Utara Subdistrict, Aceh Singkil District, 2018 with the results of statistics using the chi-square test, namely p value = 0.006 <0.05, meaning that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and marriage early. The results also showed that there was a relationship between parental support and early marriage with statistical results using the chi-square test, namely p value = 0.048 <0.05, meaning that there was a relationship between parental support with early marriage.
The conclusion of this study is the relationship of knowledge and parental support with early marriage in Kampung Baru Village, Singkil Utara Subdistrict, Aceh Singkil District, 2018. Suggestions from this study are expected health workers can provide information to women about the adverse effects of early marriage.
