Abstract
Dermatomycosis is a disease of the skin, nails, hair and mucosa caused by a fungal infection. Sei Sikambing Market is a workplace that has the potential to cause skin diseases, especially diseases caused by fungi and is supported by a lack of personal hygiene from Workers. This study aims to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and dermatomycosis symptoms in animal slaughterers at the Sei Sikambing Market in Medan in 2018.
The design of this study used analytical survey research methods with Cross Sectional research design. The population in this study were 68 animal slaughterers in the Sei Sikambing Market and all of the population was as samples. Data were analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test.
The results showed that some respondents had less personal hygiene level, namely 51 people (75.0%) and experienced symptoms of dermatomycosis amounted 42 people (61.8%). Based on bivariate analysis obtained p value is
( .004 > .05).
The results of the study concluded that there was a relationship of personal hygiene with dermatomycosis symptoms occurs in animal slaughteres at Sei Sikambing Market in Medan. It is recommended for workers to pay more attention to personal hygiene by washing their hands and feet with water that drains using soap after work, before and after meals. And using your own towel.
