Abstract

Skin often exposed to free radicals can cause skin aging and risk of carcinogenesis. One of the countermeasures is to use hand and body lotion. Where green tea (camellia sinensis) has catechin efficacious substances that belong to a group of polyphenols that have benefits as antioxidants, and also yam (pachyrhizus erosus (L) Urb) contains Vitamin C, and starch which has antioxidant and whitening activity that can be used to protect the skin from sun exposure.
This research method used the laboratory experimental methods, used the maceration green tea (camellia sinensis) leaves extracts and addition of jamica amilum (pachyrhizus erosus (L) Urb) with a concentration of 1%, 3% and 5%. Evaluation test preparation included homogeneity test, organoleptic test, pH test, hedonic test, irritation test for volunteers, humidity test.
The results of the homogeneity test showed that there were no coarse grains. Organoleptic test results showed brown form and semi-solid textures. The pH test results show a pH of 6.2 to 6.7. The results of the hedonic test showed that the preparation was favored by the panelists both in color, texture and aroma. The irritation test results indicate that the preparation was able to bind and maintain evaporation of water to the skin.
Based on the results it can be concluded that the combination of green tea leaf extract and yam starch can be formulated in the preparation of hand and body lotion. It was suggested that researchers then make other cosmetic form such as face cream, scrubs from green tea leaves and yam starch.
