Abstract

DMPA contraception (Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate) given every 3 months by injection of intra-muscular (in the buttocks area) in a dose of 150 mg. Hormonal contraceptive methods are considered one method with a high degree of effectiveness, but on the other hand hormonal contraception, especially those containing progestins, can change menstruation. Most people experience irregular and slight bleeding, prolonged cycles (oligomenorrhea) and shorter (polymenorrhea) or even menstrual periods (amenorrhoea). The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of DMPA contraceptive contraceptive devices and the menstrual cycle changes at BPS Asnah in 2018.
The research design used was analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all DMPA injector contraceptives who came to visit BPS Asnah as many as 43 respondents. The sampling technique of this research is total sampling where the entire population becomes a sample of 43 respondents. Analysis of the study using univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi-square test.
The results showed that the majority of DMPA> 1 year contraceptive contraceptive use were 27 respondents (62.8%), and those who experienced a menstrual cycle change were 25 respondents (58.1%). Chi-square test results p-value = 0.002 <0.05, so Ho was rejected and Ha accepted this indicating there was a relationship between the use of DMPA injection contraceptives and changes in the menstrual cycle.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between DMPA injection contraceptive use and changes in the menstrual cycle at BPS Asnah Medan in 2018. Advice for DMPA injection KB acceptors to better understand and determine the type of contraception desired and expected health workers can provide counseling and services both DMPA injection KB acceptors.
