Abstract
Colostrum is the breastmilk that first came out during nursing mothers. Colostrum has many benefits for mother and baby so it must be given even though there are few. There are various kinds of factors that influence the administration of colostrum in newborns including the level of knowledge, sources of information and family support.The objective of this study was to find out the factors related to the provision of colostrum in newborns at Sumiariani Maternity Clinic Medan Johor, Medan in 2018
This type of research uses an analytical survey method with cross sectional approach. The samples were post partum mothers who gave birth at Sumiariani Maternity Clinic with 35 people. The sampling used accidental sampling or samples that happen to meet the researcher. Test data analysis using Chi Square test to see the relationship of risk factors with the provision of colostrum.
The results showed that there was a relationship between the level of knowledge (p value 0,000), family support (p value 0.022) and source of information (p value 0.05) on the provision of colostrum
Based on the results of the research, the level of knowledge, family support and information sources have a relationship with the provision of colostrum so that family and health workers are expected to provide motivation to post partum mothers about colostrum.
