Abstract
Lipbalm or lip ointment is a wax substance applied to the lips in order to moisturize the lips. Usually, lipbalm is used for lips that need protection. Cananga oil is used for skin care because it contains vitamin E, and Moringa leaves contain minerals, antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin E in fresh moringa leaves have 7 times more antioxidant strength than vitamin C. Where antioxidants are compounds that help protect the body from damage to cells by free radicals. This study aimed to formulate ethanol extract of Moringa leaves with a combination of cananga oil in lipbalm dosage form.
This study used experimental research methods, tested the form with the concentration of Moringa leaves ethanol extract 1%, 2%, 3% including organoleptic test, homogeneity, irritation and preference.
The results showed that Moringa leaves lipbalm dosage fulfilled lipbalm parameters, namely organoleptic test of lipbalm form showed light brown color, distinctive scent of cananga and chocolate flowers, homogeneity test of lipbalm form and showed no coarse grain, irritation test of lipbalm form showed negative results, no irritation on the skin and solid texture, a preference test showed that the concentration of 3% was favored by the panelists.
The conclusion of the research Moringa leaves extract can be formulated as lipbalm. It was suggested that the next research use Moringa leaves extract for other cosmetics and it needs to be done further to remove chlorophyll from the Moringa leaves used so that the form of the resulting lipbalm is better.
