Abstract

Occupational diseases are diseases caused by work, tools, materials, processes or the work environment. It is known that there are 2 workers who experience complaints of eye health problems such as red eyes, watery/sore eyes, lack of visual acuity, pain in the eyelids (photokeratitis), 3 workers experience respiratory complaints such as shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing with phlegm (respiratory tract irritation), 2 people experience irritation in the hands, such as itching, swelling, hands become red. This study aimed to determine the factors associated with occupational diseases in welding workers at PT Wahanakarsa Swandiri Andalas Karya Mulia.
This is an analytical survey research with a Cross Sectional design. The total population of welding workers at PT Wahanakarsa Swandari was 56 workers who were also used as research samples then analyzed by using univariate and bivariate analysis.
The results showed that all age variables p = 0.000, working period p = 0.000, length of work p = 0.000, knowledge p = 0.000 and personal protective equipment p = 0.001 had a relationship with occupational diseases in welding workers.
The conclusion of this study shows that the variables of worker age, length of service, length of work, knowledge, use of personal protective equipment have a relationship with occupational diseases in welding workers at PT Wahanakarsa Swandiri Andalas Karya Mulia. It is suggested to PT. Wahanakarsa Swandiri Andalas Karya Mulia to be able to provide input to employees so that they can work according to procedures and comply with signs and use personal protective equipment when working to avoid occupational disease problems.
