Abstract

Cigarettes are an addictive substance that has thousands of poisons that can attack all organs of the human body. BPS North Sumatra data for the city of
Medan is that 21% of the population aged 15-25 years smokes. Based on an initial survey of 11 students at SMA Negeri 20 Medan, it was found that 7 children
smoked frequently, 3 children who were still trying to smoke, and 1 child who had never tried smoking at all. The aim of the study was to find out what factors
influence smoking behavior in adolescents at SMA Negeri 20 Medan.
This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach.
The population of this study was 194 students with a sample of 131 students taken using the Stratified Random Sampling technique. Data analysis using univariate
analysis, bivariate with Chi-Square test statistics and multivariate with multiple logistic regression tests
The results showed that the p values for knowledge (p = 0.000), attitude (p = 0.000), the role of peers (p = 0.000), and family support (p = 0.000).
The conclusion of this study shows that there is an influence of knowledge, attitudes, the role of peers and family support on smoking behavior in adolescents
at SMA Negeri 20 Medan. It is suggested to SMA Negeri 20 Medan to provide input and information for the school regarding smoking behavior in adolescents,
so that they can provide guidance or direction to all students regarding smoking
behavior.
