Abstract
Motor vehicle repair shops are an industrial sector that plays an important role in repairing and maintaining vehicles such as changing oil, changing tires and other types of maintenance. Based on the results of a preliminary survey, many motorcycle repair shops ignore the importance of handling waste, one of which is placing waste in one container which will result in the mixing of non-B3 waste with liquid and solid B3 waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of health promotion on increasing knowledge of workers in handling B3 waste at a motor vehicle repair shop in Pangkalan Masyhur Village, Medan Johor District.This type of research is quantitative with a Pre Experimental design using the One Group Pretest and Posttest Design model. The population in this study were all motorcycle repair shops in Pangkalan Masyhur Village as many as 32 motorcycle repair shops with a total sample of 96 workshop workers. The sampling technique is the total population. Before the health promotion was carried out, a pretest was carried out first, then a health promotion was carried out with the help of leaflet media after three days and then a posttest was carried out. Collecting data using a questionnaire.The results showed that from 96 workshop workers, the average value (mean) of pretest knowledge was 8.34 and after being given health promotion with leaflet media (posttest) the mean value increased to 12.56, the correlation value was 0.367 with p value = 0.000 < 0.05.The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of health promotion on increasing knowledge of workers in handling hazardous waste at a motor vehicle workshop in Pangkalan Masyhur Village, Medan Johor District. It is recommended to the workshop workers to start carrying out waste management in accordance with the provisions in order to create a healthy environment and avoid environmental pollution.
