Abstract

The WHO data in 2017, the global occurrence of tetanus in the world roughly ranges from 0.5 to 1 million cases and neonatal tetanus accounts for around 50% of tetanus deaths in developing countries. Immunization during pregnancy is very important to prevent diseases that can cause maternal and fetal death. Administration of Tetanus Toxoid (TT) immunization means giving immunity to tetanus to pregnant women and their babies. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between tetanus toxoid immunizations in pregnant women with the occurrence of tetanus infection in neonatal at Sosopan Health Center, Sosopan Sub District of Padang Lawas District.
The research method of this stidy uses an analytical survey design with a cross sectional approach. The populations of this study were all pregnant women who received TT immunization and those who did not receive TT immunization at Working Area of Sosopan Health Center as many as 270 respondents. The sampling technique used the Slovin formula in getting a total of 73 respondents. The data collection techniques used secondary data or medical records. The data analysis techniques was tested by using chi-square α = 0.05
The results of the study were from 73 respondents who received TT immunization as many as 31 respondents and who did not get TT immunization as many as 42 respondents. Infants affected by 16 respondents and those who were not infected 57 respondents. The chi-square test results were p value = 0,000.
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between TT immunizations in pregnant women with the occurrence of tetanus infection in neonatal at Sosopan Health Center, Sosopan Sub District of Padang Lawas District. It is expected to the health workers to provide knowledge and counseling to pregnant women about TT immunization regarding the side effects and risks that can occur if it is not given.
