Abstract

Lacerations are birth canal injuries that occur at the time of the baby's birth through vaginal delivery. One of the factors that causes laceration of the birth canal is the improper technique of treating the mother. This is due to the knowledge and attitude of the mother about the techniques that are not good. In addition, the baby's birth weight is also very influential with the birth laceration, because the greater the weight of the baby born will increase the risk of birth laceration. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with birth defects at the Dandy Clinic in Medan in 2018.
This study used an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach, to determine the relationship of knowledge, attitude, weight of the baby born with laceration of the birth canal. The population in this study was postpartum mothers as many as 37 respondents. Sampling was taken from all the population of this study with a total population technique of 37 respondents.
This study was tested with univariate and bivariate analysis with chi-square statistical test. The results of the knowledge value with the laceration birth path were 0.003<0.05, the results of the p value of the attitude with the birth laceration were 0.001<0.05 and the p value of the weight of the baby born with laceration of the birth canal was 0.010 <0.05.
The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship of knowledge, attitude, weight of a baby born with a laceration birth path. Therefore, it is expected that health workers can apply midwifery care to mothers during the Ante Natal Care (ANC) visit related to factors related to birth laceration so that mothers can avoid the occurrence of birth lacerations during delivery.
