Abstract

Anxiety is the most common feeling experienced by patients who are hospitalized and often occurs when patients who are treated in the hospital must undergo a surgical process. To reduce anxiety, the midwife must have good communication with pre-operative caesarean patients. Communication of midwives is urgently needed in patients with caesarean section surgery because they are the health worker closest and longest to the patient. This study aims to determine the relationship of therapeutic communication between midwives and anxiety among preoperative caesarean patients at Langsa Regional General Hospital in 2018.
This research used analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used accidental sampling amount 30 respondents who will undergo caesarean section surgery at Langsa City Hospital. Data analysis was using univariate and bivariate with statistical tests.
The results of Chi-Square test obtained cross tabulation values of the effect of therapeutic communication of midwives with anxiety of patients undergoing section caesarea in delivery room of Langsa City Hospital, namely p=0,000; Odds ratio of 7,000; <.05. H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Thus it can be interpreted that for those with good communication will get good information that can reduce anxiety.
The conclusion shows that there is a correlation between therapeutic communications of midwives with anxiety of pre-sectio caesarea patients at Langsa City Hospital in 2018. It is expected that health workers, especially midwives, provide midwifery care, especially conducting therapeutic communication to preoperative patients, improved psychological preparation to help patients to be more patient, comfortable and confident in undergoing Caesarean surgery.
