Abstract

Family planning is an action that helps a married couple to avoid pregnancy which aims to spell pregnancy. According to World Health Organization, contraceptive use has increased in many parts of the world, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, up slightly from 66.7% and 67.0%. This study aimed to determine the relationship of the influence factors on the selection of implantable contraceptives in childbearing age couples at Mayor Umar Damanik Health Center Tanjungbalai in 2019.
The research design used analytical survey research with cross sectional approach. The populations were all childbearing age mothers with implantable contraceptives acceptors in January to June 2019 with a total of 56 acceptors. The sampling technique was total sampling.
The results of the cross tabulation of 56 respondents were tested statistically using the Chi-square test found there was a relationship of knowledge with the use of implant contraceptives p-value of .001<.05. There was a relationship between husband's support and the use of implant contraceptives with a p-value of 0,000. There was a relationship between patients with the use of implant contraceptives with a p-value of 0,000.
It can be concluded that there is a relationship between knowledge, attitudes, parity and support of the husband with the use of implantable contraceptives in childbearing age couples at Mayor Umar Damanik Healch Center in Tanjung Balai. Suggestion for health workers to give IEC to contraceptives acceptors about the types of contraception and their side effects so that the acceptors can use it effectively.
