Abstract

ABSTRACT
The leaves of hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceous L.) have been known empirically as plants to fertilize hair
and prevent hair loss. The leaves of hibiscus contain saponin compounds, flavonoids, and also polyphenols. In
this study 20%, 25%, and 30% extract of hibiscus leaves was formulated in a hair tonic preparation. Tonic is a
liquid cosmetic form, a mixture of chemicals and other active substances. Made in the form of tonic preparations
because of its use which is easier and not sticky like other semi-solid preparations so as not to leave a thin layer
that can trigger dandruff formation. This research is experimental in purpose to see whether hibiscus leaf extract
can be made in the form of hair tonic preparations and see the effect of different concentrations can provide
different activities in triggering hair growth. This the research method used 5 groups of test animals namely
blank group, 20%, 25%, 30% hibiscus leaf extract and positive control (minoxidil). Testing of preparations
includes pH testing, stability testing of preparations. The test of hair growth activity is done by applying hair
tonic to the guinea pig's back and measuring hair length using callipers on the 7th, 14th, 21st days. On the 21st
day, we tested hair weights by weighing guinea pigs using analytical scales. It can be concluded that the extract
of hibiscus leaves have an activity on the growth of normal hair length with an average of 17.2633 and normal
hair weight with an average of .1450, with an effective concentration of 30%.
