Abstract

Acalypha is a plant known as a nutritious weed and contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and saponins. This study aims to determine whether the ethanol extract of Acalypha leaves can be made in the form of Hand sanitizer preparations and to find out whether the hand sanitizer preparations of Acalypha leave extract ethanol have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research was experimental with maceration method. Hand sanitizer extract of Acalypha leaves was made in 3 concentrations, namely concentrations of 7.5%, 10% and 12.5%. In hand sanitizer testing, organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, irritation test, viscosity test and Staphylococcus epidermidis antibacterial activity test. The data is processed statistically using ANOVA. The ethanol extract of acalypha leaves was tested on Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria using media (NA). Testing the antibacterial activity of hand sanitizer preparations of Acalypha leaves ethanol extract with formulations of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% has achieved effective antibacterial activity. The 7.5% formulation shows the antibacterial activity 28.6 mm smaller than the antibacterial activity the 10% formulation shows 30.7 mm, the 12.5% formulation shows the antibacterial activity at 32.0 mm. The results of this study indicate that the preparation of hand leaf sanitizer extract of Acalypha leaves with a concentration of 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% produces a hand sanitizer that meets the requirements of the organoleptic test, homogeneity test. pH test, irritation test, viscosity test and antibacterial activity test. Acalypha leaves ethanol extract showed the strong antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus epidermidis.
