Abstract
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), contraceptive users have increased in many parts of the world, especially parts of Asia and Latin America and the lowest in sub-Saharan Africa globally, modern contraceptive users have increased not significantly from 54% to 57.4%. In Africa from 23.6% to 27.6%, while in Asia it has increased from 60.9% to 61.6%. Hormonal contraceptive injections contain the hormone progesterone (progestin), which is similar to a female natural hormone, namely progesterone. One of the side effects of contraceptive methods is the irregular menstrual cycle. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the use of injection syringes with the menstrual cycle at the Sulistiowati Maternity Clinic in the high district of Padang Lawas district.
The study design was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was all women of childbearing age who used injectable contraceptives at the Sulistiowati Maternity Clinic totaling 45 people (total population). The data used are primary and secondary data. The instrument used was a questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate data analysis technique. Data were analyzed by applying the Chi-square analysis test.
The results of the study from 45 respondents, mothers who experienced regular menstrual cycles as many as 19 people (42.2%), and mothers who experienced irregular menstrual cycles as many as 26 people (57.8%). The chi-square test results are p-value = 0.000.
The conclusion in this study is that there is a relationship between the use of injectable contraception with the menstrual cycle at the Sulistiowati Midwife Clinic in Hutaraja Tinggi Subdistrict, Padang Lawas Regency in 2018. It is suggested to midwives to provide counselling and new acceptors regarding side effects and risks that can occur in family planning injection at the Sulistiowati Maternity Clinic.
