Abstract
The post partum period is the most vulnerable period in the incidence of pain. One of the causes of pain in mother Nifas is problems in the lactation process. The most Indonesian engorgement incident in the mothers worked 16%. The wrong way of breastfeeding can lead to engorgement. Other causes are poor suction in the breast, frequency capping or duration of lactation and lack of knowledge to do breast care during pregnancy. The narrowing of the lactiferous duct in the breast may also occur when the mother has a nipple disorder (e.g. flat, sunset and long nipple milk).
This research aims to determine the factors related to the dam of ASI in the work area of Puskesmas Binjai Serbangan District Air Joman Regency Asahan in 2019. This type of research is an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach conducted in February – July 2019, sampling technique is a total sampling with the number of samples as many as 76 respondents. Data is analyzed by conducting a test of chi-square analysis.
The results showed as many as 13 respondents (17.11%) experiencing the engorgement. The test results of the factors studied are the knowledge factor (P = 0.003), the frequency of lactation factor (P = 0.001), the position breastfeeding factor (P = 0.008) and the form putting factor (P = 0.008), that the value of the p < 0.05 can be interpreted there is an independent factor relationship with engorgement.
There is a relationship of factors studied with the engorgement in the working area of Puskesmas Binjai Serbangan Asahan Regency is expected to place research to improve the quality of health services as well as conduct health promotion as a preventive effort the engorgement through counseling by the healthcare personnel owned.
