Abstract
Shampoo is a cosmetic dosage form used to clean hair. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a plant that can be used to nourish hair. Its leaves ethanol extract formulated with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. The aim of this study is to find out whether it can be formulated as a shampoo dosage form and has activity on hair growth in rabbits.
This research is experimental research. Work procedures consist of animal preparation; materials and how to make shampoo; evaluation of shampoo dosage form in the form of homogeneity, pH, organoleptic, high foam, viscosity, irritation; and the effectiveness of rabbit hair growth in the form of determining hair length and weight.
The results obtained were statistically tested using the one way ANOVA method. The results showed the evaluation of dosage form for homogeneity test of the four shampoo were homogeneous; the highest average pH test was found in F1 5.56, organoleptic test F0 was thick white, F1 was light brown, F2 was dark brown and F3 was blackish brown; the highest foam height is at F3 6 cm; highest viscosity at F3 2720 cPs; irritation test of the four formulas did not occur irritation; to test the average length of rabbit hair activity obtained positive control 15.97±.0944, F0 2.225±60.0927, F1 5.4880.0855, F2 6.508±.0854, F3 7.380.094964, without treatment (x ) 1,794±.3670.
It can be concluded that ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves can be formulated as a shampoo dosage form that meets the requirements of its quality and rabbit hair growth activity test.
