Abstract

Word Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 obtained data on exclusive breastfeeding in countries under 50% breast milk coverage, in Afghanistan 43.1%, Mexico 30.1%, Myanmar 50.1%, Nigeria 23.3%, and Paraguay 29.6 %. Oxytocin massage is one solution to overcome the smooth production of Breast Milk. Oxytocin massage is a spinal massage at 5-6 to the scapula which will accelerate the work of the parasympathetic nerve to stimulate the posterior pituitary to release oxytocin. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the average before and after massage of oxytocin on milk production at Haji General Hospital Medan in 2019. Method; The research design uses Quasi Experimental method with the approach used in this study was the pretest and posttest without control group design. The sampling technique was done by using purposive sampling with the number of respondents 20 maternal post partum day 2-3 days. Results: The results showed that the value before massage was 12.75 while the value after massage was 27.75. The average value of milk production before the test (massaged) with a p value of 0.05 with an average number of 0.00. Whereas after the oxytocin massage tests the p value was 10.00 with an average amount of 190.00. The conclusion of this study shows that the experimental test results have a significant value of probability that was sig p = 0,000 or <sig value α = 0.05. Conclusion: This proves that there is a significant difference in milk production between before and after oxytocin massage. It is suggested for health workers in Haji General Hospital Medan so that this research can be included in an effort to increase milk production in maternal post partum.
