Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), teens are very at risk of suffering from anemia, especially iron deficiency. It is estimated that 25% of Indonesian teenagers have anemia. According to Riskesdas the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia is 21.7% with anemia patients aged 5-14 years at 26.4% while anemia patients aged 15-24 years is 18.4%. This study aims to determine the relationship of Fe tablet consumption with anemia in young women at SMA Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu of Labuhanbatu Regency in 2019.
The study design was an analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The population of this study was all female teenage students of SMA Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu class X-XII, totaling 236 people and using stratified random sampling to 70 people. The data used were primary and secondary data. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The data was analyzed by using Univariate and bivariate data analysis and tested by performing Chi-square analysis test.
The results of the study of 70 respondents, teenage who consume Fe tablet irregularly as many as 40 people (57.1%), regular consumption of Fe tablets as many as 30 people (42.9%), teenage girls who were anemia as many as 46 people (65.7%) , normal as many as 24 people (34.3%). The relationship of Fe tablet consumption with anemia in female teenagers at SMA Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu with the results of statistical tests using Chi-Square obtained a p-value of .035 <.05.
The conclusion in this study shows that there is a relationship between consumption of Fe tablets with anemia in teenage girls at SMA Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu Labuhanbatu Regency in 2019. It is suggested to teachers to provide time to consume blood-added tablets together in an effort to improve student adherence to take these tablets and put posters about the dangers of anemia in the school environment.
