Abstract
At this time antifungal drugs have expanded widely with various preparations to treat skin diseases, one of which is candidiasis caused by Candida albicans. Some herbs are also used as an alternative treatment for antifungal drugs, one of which is the mind leaf (Melia azedarach L).
This study used an experimental design. The study was conducted by making cream preparations with 3 variations of mindi leaf ethanol extract concentration of 5%, 10% and 20%. The cream is formulated with the addition of preservatives and without preservatives, then tested the physical properties and anti-fungal activity against Candida albicans with positive control that is ketoconazole as a comparison.
The results of the evaluation of the pH of the cream preparation showed that the greater the concentration of the extract in the dosage formulation, the pH decreased. Inhibition of each concentration of mindi leaf extract cream (Melia azedarach L.) was calculated by the antimicrobial index. Mindi leaf extract creams that use preservatives show an obstacle to the growth of Candida albicans are FI and FII, whereas mindi leaf extract creams without the use of preservatives show the inhibition of Candida albicans growth are FV and FVI.
In conclusion, variations in the concentration of mindi leaf ethanol extract (Melia azedarach L.) and preservative additives influence the physical properties of the cream preparations and their inhibitory properties against Candida albicans.
