Abstract
ABSTRACT
THE INFLUENCE OF POSTER MEDIA ON KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE DANGERS OF SMOKING AT SMA NEGERI 1 TANJUNGBALAI IN 2019

Cigarettes are one of the biggest causes of preventable deaths in society. The use of media such as posters can be an alternative to convey information to the public about the dangers of smoking. Based on a preliminary survey at SMA Negeri 1 Tanjungbalai showed that out of 10 students, 6 students did not know the dangers of smoking and 4 knew about it. This study aims to determine the influence of poster media on knowledge about the dangers of smoking.
The research design used Quasi Experiment with pretest and posttest one group methods. The populations in this study were all students of class X IA and XIS with amounted 276 students and the sample technique used Stratified Random sampling amounted 74 students. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate with independent sample t test statistics.
The results indicated that students’ knowledge before being given a poster most have less knowledge of 45 respondents (60.8%) and after being given a poster most have good knowledge of 37 respondents (50.0%). Statistical test results showed the value of t-students' knowledge about the dangers of smoking after and before being given the media poster was 7,132 with a probability (sig) of 0,000.
The conclusion shows that there is a significant difference between students' knowledge about the dangers of smoking before and after being given a media poster. It is hoped that this research can be used as information material for teachers and students so that they know the dangers of smoking and the diseases through posters in their school environment.
