Abstract
UNICEF data shows that exclusive breastfeeding in 2018 is only 41% worldwide while in Indonesia is at 68.74%, but in Aceh is only at 48.17%. Lack of breast milk intake causes the baby's nutritional needs to become unbalanced. This study aims to determine the effect of exclusive breastfeeding on infant weight at Hj. Dewi Sismera Clinic in 2019.
This research is analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Hj. Dewi Sismera Clinic from March-June 2019. The populations were mothers who had infant aged 6 months amount 36 babies and 14 of them were experiencing weight gain that was not appropriate for their age. Data were obtained using observation sheets and analyzed by univariate and bivariate. Bivariate analysis using Chi Square statistical tests at α = 5%.
The results showed the majority of exclusive breastfeeding in the category of non-exclusive breastfeeding were 23 respondents (63.9%), and the minority were 13 respondents (36.1%), body weight for babies aged 6 months, the majority of respondents who had normal babies were 19 respondents (52.8 %), respondents who have thin babies were 7 respondents (19.4%), and respondents who have fat babies were 10 respondents (27.8%) and the results of the chi square test, obtained p-value=.002 <α .05, then the hypothesis was accepted.
The conclusion shows that there is the effect of exclusive breastfeeding on infant weight at Hj. Dewi Sismera Clinic in 2019. It is suggested to provide counseling to health workers to be able to provide knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding to postpartum mothers.
