Abstract

The demand for healthy food and drinks is getting higher now along with the increasing level of education and public awareness of healthy living. In addition to food factors, health-supporting beverage factors are also growing. It is time for refreshing drinks like tea, brewed coffee, traditional herbal medicines and antioxidant-rich fruit juices to be adopted from what is only limited to the results of research on paper into our daily life trends. This study aims to test and compare the antioxidant activity of packaged drinks.
This research used a descriptive research method that was a laboratory research by using samples of packaged drinks from several brands which were made in various concentrations of 100 ppm, 200 ppm, and 300 ppm then their antioxidant activity was tested by adding DPPH method using UV-Visible Spectrophotometer.
The results of the study were seen from the IC50 values of each sample. IC50 value of Nutri Jeruk was 418,20817 ppm; IC50 value of X-Teh was 14914.7059 ppm; IC50 value of Ale-Ale Jeruk was 1186,04543 ppm; IC50 value of Oronamin-C was 97.61812 ppm; IC50 value of OTEE was 697,012537 ppm.
Based on the study above, it can be concluded that Oronamin-C has strong antioxidant activity, whereas Nutri Jeruk, X-Teh, Ale-Ale Jeruk, and OTEE have very weak antioxidant activity.
