Abstract

Breastfeeding is very important for optimal growth and development both physically and mentally for a baby. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO), globally less than 40% of infants under 6 months are exclusively breastfeeding and the rest are given complementary foods other than breast milk. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding in infants 7-12 months in the Hanna Kasih Pratama Clinic in 2019. Methods: The design of this research was analytic survey with cross-sectional approach. The population in this study were mothers who breastfed 7-12 months by 30 respondents. The sample of thsi study amounted 30 respondents using a total population technique. Data analysis was carried out by means of univariate and bivariate analyses (chi-square test). Result: Statistical test results using the results of the chi-square test, the results of the p-value of knowledge by giving exclusive breastfeeding is .007<.05, the results of p-value attitude with exclusive breastfeeding are .013<.05, the results of p-value of work by exclusive breastfeeding are .004<.05, the results of p-value of family support by exclusive breastfeeding is .042<.05. The conclusion from the results of this study shown the relationship of knowledge, attitudes, work, family support with exclusive breastfeeding fwas found. It is expected that health workers at the Hanna Kasih Pratama Clinic in Medan will further improve services to provide information to nursing mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding to infants.
