Abstract

Growth and development is a physical change and an increase in the size
of the body parts of an individual that is different from each other, and the perfect
ability, skills, and functions of the body are more complex in gross motor. Growth
and development is influenced by stimulation such as massage. The natural touch
is massage. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of infant massage
against motor improvement in infants aged 6-12 months.
This research type used a Quasi Experiment with Nonequivalent Pretest
Posttest Control Group Design approach. The populations were 30 respondents
with 15 respondents as the control group and 15 respondents as the treatment
group, while the sample was taken from the whole population.
The results showed that infant massage in the treatment group before the
massage was increased there were 1 person (6.7%) and after the massage that
increased there were 11 people (73.3%), whereas before the massage that did not
increase there were 14 people (93.3%) and after massages that did not increase
there were 4 people (26.7%). And the results of statistical tests using the Wilcoxon
test, obtained calculation results ρ-value=.002 <α=.05, means there was a
significant effectiveness of Infant Massage on Motor improvement in Infants aged
6-12 Months.
The conclusion shows there is the effectiveness of baby massage on motor
improvement in Infants aged 6-12 Months at Hanna Kasih Clinic Medan in 2019.
It is expected that local health workers conduct counseling about infant massage
in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.
