Abstract
Smoking is an activity that is still widely practiced by many people, although it is often written in letters - newspapers, magazines and other mass media that are mentioned the dangers of smoking. School children who are still in school uniform also do smoking. This study was to study any factors related to smoking habits in Arjuna Private Vocational School, Laguboti, Toba Samosir Regency in 2018, the type of research used was a joint research (mixmethod). The population of this study was all private SMK students, Arjuna won 71 people, with total sampling techniques.
Statistical tests using the chi square test, the results of the study were obtained from 71 respondents, 29 people (40.8%) who smoked, 65 people (91.5%) had good knowledge about cigarettes, connected cigarettes available with p values of 0.011, related friends peers with a p value of 0.016, related to psychological reasons with a p value of 0.032, the results of interviews with information about them as peers, a house / boarding house near a cigarette shop, making it easier for them to buy cigarettes, they allow smoking-free residence.
The conclusion of this research is the relationship between available cigarettes, peers, psychological reasons with smoking in Arjuna Pintubosi - Laguboti Private Vocational School in 2019. It is expected that the school will be more concerned about the smoking ban in schools, the school canteen is really controlled so as not to ask for cigarette sales. The Toba Samosir Health Service hopes to provide assistance or continuing education and support students regarding smoking and its dangers and issues policies that can overcome the problem of smoking among students.
