THE EFFECTIVENESS TEST OF FACIAL LIGHTENING CREAMS OF GUAVA LEAVES (Psidium guajava L) ETHANOL EXTRACT LEAVES

Guava leaves contain flavonoids that have the potential to brighten the skin. Based on previous research tested the potential for sunscreen guava leaf extract, the development of face cream made from chemical active ingredients and increasing consumers will affect health so it is needen to develop natural active cream. This study aims to formulate a face lightening cream using guava leaf extract and to determine the time needed to provide a brightness effect on facial skin.
This research used experimental methods. Guava leaves were macerated using 70% ethanol solvent. Using concentrations of 0.1%, 0.25%, 0.5% negative control and positive control. Tests include homogeneity, organoleptic, pH, irritation and facial lightening testing using a skin analyzer with parameters of water content, skin smoothness, pore size, and the number of blemishes.
The results of homogeneous cream research, pH 6.8 - 7, all formulas were good, not irritated, guava leaf extract cream showed its effectiveness as the best lightening of the face in formula III concentrations of 0.5%. Increase the water content from 30.6 to 33.3, reduce skin roughness from 36 to 29.3, reduce pores from 35.6 to 23, and reduce the number of blemishes from 38 to 22 after using it for a month.
Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that guava leaf extract can be formulated into a cream dosage form and provide a brightening effect on the face with guava leaf extract concentration of 0.1%, 0.25% and 0.5%.
