Abstract

Hand sanitizer is a gel with a variety of ingredients that quickly kill
microorganisms in the skin of the hand. Lemon leaf (Citrus limon) has active
compounds including limonene, tannins and phenol Limonene. The purpose of this
study was to determine the formulation of a hand sanitizer gel formulation of
ethanol extract of lemon leaves (Citrus limon).
This research method used a laboratory experimental method by
extracting macerated lemon leaves (Citrus limon) which then proceed to the
formulation of hand sanitizer lemon ethanol extract with a concentration of 0%,
2%, 4%, 6%. Testing of the form includes homogeneity test, organoleptic test, pH
test, and irritation test.
The results showed that the gel hand sanitizer dosage form were all
homogeneous. Organoleptic test showed brown, orange and semi-solid form. The
pH test showed pH F0 6.6, F1 6.1, F2 5.9, and F3 5.1. The irritation test showed
that the hand sanitizer gel had a negative result, i.e. there was no irritation in the
volunteers. The scatter power test showed that F0 has a diameter of 7.5 cm, F1
2% 7cm, F2 4% 6.5cm, and F3 6% 4cm.
The conclusion from the results obtained that the ethanol extract of lemon
leaves (Citrus limon) can be formulated as a gel hand sanitizer. It is suggested
that further researchers conduct a bacterial test on the formulation of a gel hand
sanitizer of ethanol extract of lemon orange (Citrus limon).
