Abstract

Low birth weight babies are newborns whose weight at birth is less than 2500 grams regardless of gestational age. WHO (World Health Organization) notes that Indonesia is ranked ninth. The results of an initial survey conducted at the Sanggiran Health Centre in West Simeulue Subdistrict still occur with LBW events. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the incidence of low birth weight babies.
This study used an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional approach carried out from March to July 2019. The population of 119 used random sampling to 54 respondents, the data used are primary and secondary data, with a questionnaire instrument that has passed the validity test with a reliability value of .907, analyzed univariate and bivariate.
Chi-Square test data analysis results: there are effects of age p- (sig) = 0.015, parity p- (sig) = .005, pregnancy distance p- (sig) = .003, nutritional status p- (sig) = .032, economic status p- (sig) = .004, knowledge p- (sig) = .000, with the incidence of LBW in the Sanggiran health centre of Simeulue Barat District and can provide benefits for students and the health centre for the factors influencing the LBW incidence.
The conclusion in the study there is a relationship between age, parity, the distance of pregnancy, nutritional status, economic status, knowledge with LBW events. Suggestions that health workers at the Sanggiran Health Centre in West Simeulue District can provide education about factors that influence LBW events to increase knowledge of pregnant women and reduce the risk of LBW births.
