Abstract

Snack is food or drink that is served in containers or roadside sales, public places or other places, which have been prepared or cooked beforehand in a production site or at home or at a retail location. Factors that influence the selection of snacks include internal and external factors. This study aims to determine the factors related to the selection of snacks on fifth grade students at MIS Al Hidayah Desa Muliorejo, Sunggal Sub-District, Deli Serdang District in 2019.
This research type was analytical survey. The design used cross sectional approach. The sampling technique was the total population with a sample of 97 fifth grade students at MIS Al Hidayah. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test.
The results of this study using the chi-square test, showed that there was a significant relationship between respondent's knowledge (p=.003), attitude (p=.004), allowance (p=.011), habit of carrying provisions (p=.011), influence friends (p=.006) with the selection of snacks.
The conclusion shows that there is a relationship of knowledge, attitudes, snacks, habit of carrying lunch, and the influence of peers with the selection of snacks for fifth grade students at MIS Al Hidayah. It is suggested to the school to educate students about the safety of snacks, as well as to monitor food and drink vendors selling in the school environment, and for students at MIS Al Hidayah to be able to choose safe and healthy snacks in the school environment.
