Abstract
Early Breastfeeding Initiation (EBI) is a way of giving an opportunity to a newborn baby to suckle on her mother in the first hour of life, where the baby is left to look for her mother's nipples (not offered to the nipple). EBI plays an important role in increasing the success of exclusive breastfeeding and in achieving the goals of SDGs, which is to help reduce poverty, hunger and child and under-five mortality. From the 427 deliveries at Vita Insani Hospital Pematangsiantar, only 124 were implemented (29.03%).
This research is an analytical survey research with mix methods explanatory sequential design. The populations in this study were health workers in charge of the maternity department of Vita Hospital Pematangsiantar amounting to 38 people. The sample in this study was a total population of 38 health workers and 3 informants from the population. The method of data collection in this study used primary data, namely questionnaires and interviews, secondary data and tertiary data. The data analysis in this study used the Chi-Square test with a value of p = 0.05.
The conclusion of this studyshows that there is the relationship of age (0.007), knowledge (0.002), attitude (0.004), training (0.003), and supervision through interviews with health workers and the implementation of the EBI at Vita Insani Hospital Pematangsiantar in 2018.
It is expected that health workers will continue to improve the implementation of EBI which has become a government regulation. By implementing the EBI program, national programs related to breastfeeding can work well.
