Abstract

Care practices the words come from to rear which is have a meaning as caring, protection a young child. Nutritional status is one of child’s health indicator. The first five year of children life is the important period whereby child needs proper nutrition to support the growth. The number of children who has malnutrition and co-morbid desease is 73 children. Kabupaten Simalungun on 2013 had suffers of malnutrition 12,1% and underweight 8,2%. In 2017 case of malunutrition and underweight has 13 children.
The Method used in this study is analytical survey research using a cross sectional approach. Population is 1800 mothers and children under five. The sample is 95 mothers and children under five. The objective of this study was to determine the association care practices to nutritional status in children. This study was cross sectional on 95 mothers from 95 children whose age were 24-60 months old.
The study showed that 50% children were normal nutritional status and 23,8% children were underweight. The study also found that 60,9% children with moderate care for feeding, 53,7% with good care for health and 49,4% with moderate care for body.There was significant association between care for nutrition( P=0,001) and there is no significant association care for health with child nutritional status (P=0,237) and there was no significant association between care for self with child nutritional status (p=0,724). The study of multivariate show that one variable with (OR=2.542) that moderate care for feeding.
The conclusion suggest the mothers have to pay attention with food intake and child health care. Mothers should take their children regularly to public health center.
