Abstract
Everyday skin experiences free radical exposure from the environment that can resulting in premature aging. The process of premature aging is characterized by decreased production of sweat glands, decreased skin moisture due to skin elasticity and the ability of the skin to hold water has been reduced. The aging process can cause the formation of wrinkles, dry and rough skin, black spots and decreased skin elasticity.
This study aims to formulate potato ethanol extract in the form of clay mask. This research method was conducted experimentally. Potato sampling was taken by purposive sampling. Potatoes used are organic potatoes purchased from Simalem Farm. The study included making clay mask preparations using ethanol extract of potatoes with a concentration of 6%, 8% and 10%. The blank is used as a clay mask base without potato ethanol extract and Viva Face Mask as a positive control. Evaluation of physical quality of preparations such as homogeneity test, stability test, pH test and effectiveness test as anti aging using skin analyzer. Parameters measured include water content, pore size, skin smoothness, number of stains and wrinkles. Treatment is carried out for four weeks by applying a mask once a week.
The results showed that the ethanol extract of potatoes could be formulated into clay mask preparations, there was an improvement in the skin condition to be better and effective as an anti aging.
It was suggested to further researchers to examine masks of potato ethanol extract in other forms such as peel off, sheet, gel and others.
