Abstract
Menarche is the first menstruation experienced by women, which is physically characterized by the release of blood from the vagina due to decay of the endometrial layer. In the United States the age of menarche between 12 and 13 years, and in India menarche has a decrease in age, that is, the average age 11.4 years. In Russia, the average age of menarche is 13 years, while in Norway the average age of menarche is 13.2 years. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with preparedness to face menarche on female students at SMP Negeri 3 Pulau Rakya, Pulau Rakya Sub-district of Asahan District in 2018.
The design of this study is analytical survey with cross sectional approach which aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with preparedness to face menarche on female students at SMP Negeri Rakyat 3 Pulau Rakyat, Pulau Rakyat Sub-district of Asahan District in 2018. The population of this study was 64 female students, with research sampling techniques this used a total population, which was the entire population sampled as many as 64 female students.
The results showed that the majority of female students in sufficient category with the results of the chi-square test for the knowledge variable obtained a value of p = 0.033 (p <0.05) and the majority of female students in the positive category with the results of the chi-square test p = 0.030 (p <0 , 05).
The conclusion of this study shows that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitude and prepaerdness to face menarche. It is expected that health workers can provide information and counseling about knowledge and preparedness to face menarche, so they can be calm when entering the transition period (puberty).
