Abstract
Smoking is a habit that is difficult to stop, and has a negative effect on the smoker and those around him. Smoking habits are a common phenomenon in Indonesian society. For some people, cigarettes have become a necessity of life that cannot be abandoned in everyday life. Indonesia consumes 1.1 billion cigarettes annually. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence the smoking behavior of patients at Medan General Hajj Hospital in 2018.
This study uses an analytic survey with a cross sectional study design, which aims to analyze the factors that influence the smoking behavior of patients' families in Medan Haji General Hospital, a population of 62 people and all sampled. Data analysis was performed univariately, bivariate using chi-square and multivariate using multiple logistic regression at 95% confidence level ( = 0.05).
The results showed that the factors that influence the family smoking behavior of patients at Medan Haji General Hospital in 2018 were knowledge, attitude and perception with a p value <0.05. While the factors that have no effect are motivation with p value> 0.05. Knowledge factor is the most influential factor on the patient's family in Medan Hajj General Hospital in 2018. Knowledge factor variable has Exp (B) = 7.024 (95% CI = 1.741-28.340) meaning that respondents who have less knowledge tend to have the opportunity to behave smoking is 7.024 times higher than respondents who have good knowledge about cigarettes.
The conclusion of this study is that the smoking behavior of family patients is influenced by knowledge, attitudes and perceptions. It was suggested to the head of Medan Haji General Hospital to socialize the dangers of smoking to health to respondents such as the advertising of the dangers of smoking banners, vidon tron and cracking down on anyone who smokes in the Medan Haji Hospital area, so that visitors are increasingly aware of the dangers of smoking to health.
