Abstract
National targets set by the Indonesian Ministry of Health in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Health No.450/Menkes/SK/IV/2000 for achieving exclusive breastfeeding is 80%. Referring to the target, in 2014 it did not reach the target of 52.3%. An initial survey conducted by researchers at the Pratama Doa Ibu Perdamaian Clinic Prayer Stabat of Langkat District found that 6 out of 10 nursing mothers did not give exclusive breastfeeding but gave formula milk. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes with formula feeding in 0-6 months infants at Pratama Doa Ibu Perdamain Clinic Stabat of Langkat District in 2018.
The type of this research is analytical survey with cross sectional approach. The sample of the study was mothers who had infants aged 0-6 months at Pratama Doa Ibu Perdamain Clinic Stabat namely babies born from April to September 2018 as many as 34 people. The data were analyzed using chi-square statistical test.
The results showed that most of the mothers had enough knowledge as many as 18 respondents (52.9%), most mothers had a positive attitude as many as 23 respondents (67.3%) and there was a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and formula feeding with a p value of 0.022 <0.05 and there was a significant relationship between maternal attitudes and formula feeding in 0-6 months infants with p value of 0.003 <0.05.
Based on the result of this study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers with formula feeding in infants 0-6 months. It is suggested for mothers who have 0-6 months babies to increase their knowledge by seeking more information, so that mothers do not give formula milk but give exclusive breastfeeding.
