Abstract
Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella typhii. Based on data at Pangkat Health Center in 2018 there were 83 cases of typhoid fever where most of the patients were children aged 6-12 years. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and handwashing behavior with the incidence of Typhoid Fever in the Pangkat Health Center Labuhan Batu District in 2018.
This type of research is an analytical survey with a case control approach. The study sample consisted of 42 cases and 42 control persons. Collecting data through interviews and observations based on the questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out by univariate and bivariate using Chi-square test with a 95% confidence level.
The results showed that there was a relationship between environmental sanitation (clean water source (p = 0.001; OR = 4.580), stool disposal place (p = 0.000; OR = 9,000), hand washing behavior before meals (p = 0,000; OR = 14,091) and hand washing behavior after defecation (p = 0,000; OR = 8,179) with the incidence of typhoid fever in children aged 6-12 years at Pangkat Health Center in 2018.
It was suggested to the head of Pangkat Health Center to be able to improve health promotion regarding environmental sanitation and hand washing to the community to prevent transmission of typhoid fever.
